Mayra Feddersen, principal researcher at the Millennium Nucleus Migra, is featured in El País in the article “Migrant women in Chile: more years of education, yet lower pay and longer working hours”. The piece highlights part of her research on migrant women, education, and their current labor conditions in Chile.
The article states:
“What is striking,” says Mayra Feddersen, author of the study, “is that women who have migrated to Chile tend to have more years of schooling than Chilean women, at least between the ages of 34 and 54. On average, they have 13.5 years of education, compared to 12.7 years for Chilean women.”
Feddersen, who holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy with a focus on jurisprudence and social policy, is currently an associate professor at UAI and a researcher at the Millennium Nucleus Migra. She explains:
“Since this is a more educated population, one would expect their contribution to the labor market to be greater. But despite this, their income remains lower,” she says.
