The Millennium Nuclei LM2C2 and Migra joined forces to organize a discussion panel on Thursday, September 7, focused on the phenomenon of migration in Chile and around the world, its main challenges and issues, with an emphasis on labor and opportunities.
From Núcleo Migra, Patricio Domínguez, deputy director of the nucleus, participated, providing context on the current state of migration in Chile, Latin America, and countries such as Canada and Sweden. He also discussed the reasons behind migration, such as new labor opportunities, and highlighted how public perception of this phenomenon in Chile has evolved, where it is still often viewed negatively.
From the Millennium Nucleus for Labor Market Mismatch (LM2C2), the speaker was Mauricio Bucca, sociologist and academic from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, who discussed his research on migration: one study on second-generation migrant assimilation in terms of labor mobility, and another on mixed marriages, topics that have been widely studied in Europe but for which Chile still lacks sufficient data.
