On Tuesday, November 11, the Ministry of Social Development and Family released the first results of the 2024 Early Childhood Longitudinal Survey (ELPI), a landmark study that has followed more than ten thousand children and adolescents in Chile over a 14-year period. The survey provides a comprehensive view of their development, wellbeing, and the social, educational, and technological transformations shaping their lives.
Alejandra Abufhele, Assistant Professor at the School of Government at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and Principal Investigator at the Millennium Nucleus MIGRA, participated in the event alongside members of the ELPI Expert Panel and representatives from UNICEF Chile, Fundación Colunga, and various academic institutions.
The results highlight critical trends such as increasing digital exposure among adolescents, ongoing challenges in mental health, and persistent inequalities in access to care and support—factors that are central to understanding the contemporary trajectories of children and young people in Chile.
