The First Meeting of Local Governments and Human Mobility, organized by SERMIG and UNHCR, addressed the challenges posed by the arrival of individuals with international protection needs. Around 100 representatives from various Chilean regional governments and municipalities, along with special guests from Argentina, gathered on December 5th and 6th in Santiago for the inaugural meeting. The initiative aimed to share best practices, innovative experiences, and identify common needs or challenges, as well as specificities related to the local inclusion of asylum seekers, refugees, and individuals in human mobility in the territories. Furthermore, it fostered ideas to promote peaceful coexistence and the well-being of communities that have welcomed thousands of people in mobility situations. Additionally, the meeting facilitated the establishment of a working network to coordinate and share initiatives in preparation for the year 2024.
